CR - High Leverage Practices for Students with Disabilities (for Paraeducators)

High-leverage practices (HLP’s) are a structured, systematic approach to teaching that involves clear, direct teaching of concepts and skills. “The idea that there is a relatively small set of key practices all educators should know and have in their toolbelt is not only logical, but it is connected immediately with overwhelmed teacher educators, professional development providers, and educators all struggling to learn and implement a seemingly endless list of evidence-based and other practices.” (CEDAR center). This High-Leverage Practices Professional Learning will provide educators with clear teaching strategies around collaboration, data-driven planning, instruction in behavior and academics, and intensify and intervene as needed. This comprehensive course is designed for PK-12 special education and general education teachers seeking to enhance their instructional practices through high-leverage practices. Participants will study and implement collaboration, data-driven planning, instruction in behavior and academics, and intensify and intervene.

The training will focus on the role of the paraeducator in supporting high leverage practices to equip you with the essential skills to support students in both special education and general education settings.

Learning Goals

1

Participants will develop a foundational understanding of the High-Leverage Practices and how they support effective special education instruction.

Participants will observe video demonstrations of teachers modeling HLPs.

Participants will explore strategies for collecting and interpreting student data with the direction of the teacher. 

4

Participants will apply learned strategies as they support the learning environment.
