The CRAEA Preschool SDI scale up is a professional development initiative aimed to develop and implement tools and processes to aid teachers in delivering effective specially designed instruction to improve the outcomes for learners with disabilities. 

The Iowa Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) framework empowers early childhood practitioners to diagnose, design, and deliver high-quality specially designed instruction. 

This is a multi-year commitment to the professional learning, coaching supports, and  implementation practices tied to the SDI framework.

Important Session Information:


Learning Objectives

  1. The participant will understand and be able to utilize the Iowa SDI framework.
  2.  The participant will learn how to implement DEC Recommended Practices.
  3. The participant will develop and implement an action plan that incorporates the DEC Recommended Practices and/or the SDI framework.

Course Requirements

100% attendance and active participation required.
Assignments will include and not limited to: 

  • Child strengths, preferences and interests matrix
  • Data analysis tool (RIOT/SCIL)
  • Embedded Instructional Practices Checklist
  • ELO matrix aligned with IEP goals
  • Peer-Mediated Intervention
  • Action Plan
  • Coaching Sessions within district teams
  • Coaching and Assessment Activities including Child Assessment, Self Assessment and Team Assessment

Grading Criteria

Pass- Students attend all hours of the course and complete assigned activities.
Fail - Student fails to meet each objectives'' pass descriptors and/or attend all required
learning.
