CR - Structured Teaching for Special Education: Expanded Professional Development (2025) (LR)

Participants will participate in an immersive training designed to equip educators and support staff with practical, hands-on strategies for enhancing the learning environment for students with autism. Participants will engage in activities that teach them how to effectively structure classrooms and lessons to meet diverse needs, emphasizing the integration of evidence-based practices such as visual schedules, reinforcement systems, communication systems and tools to support functional and social communication skills. Participants will have access to 10 experts and students on-site for immediate implementation and practice!

Through interactive workshops and collaborative exercises, attendees learn how to foster meaningful engagement and communication in their classrooms while ensuring that instructional methods align with best practices in autism education. Student volunteers provide opportunities for practitioners to experience real-world applications. Finally, a parent panel provides practitioners with a global view of the whole child and allows for practitioners to expand their perspectives as they support students with diverse needs.

In addition to the 5-day training, all participants will attend a minimum of two learning labs at River Hills School to provide ongoing professional development in model classrooms. Participants will have to choose from multiple dates (Wednesdays), 12:30 to 3:30, to accommodate their schedules. In-person or virtual is available. Sign-up will be available following the 5-day training.  The Learning Labs are also available as a standalone opportunity for $250 per lab that anyone can join.  

Participants will complete a pre-learning survey at the beginning of each learning session to measure their current level of knowledge and skills. The information from the survey will be used to differentiate the course content to meet participants'' needs.

This is a 2-credit license Renewal Course

Grading Criteria

Participants must fully participate in all group discussions, hands-on activities, reflection activities, and application activities.
